"The Gods Must Be Crazy" One Of My Favorite Movies Of All Time!

Updated on October 15, 2013

This movie is extremely funny! I remember watching this movie in the 80's with my cousins at my Aunt's house, and we couldn't get enough of it. My aunt had this huge screen tv that took up the whole wall, making this movie even more fun to watch!

Filmed in Africa, it starts off like a documentary about the bushman who live in the deep Kalahari. But soon gets funny when the narrator describes the crazy hustle and bustle of everyday civilized life. The narrator then explains that the bushmen know nothing about the civilized world, and they think that their world is the only thing in existence.

We soon meet a certain bushmen family, and we learn their ways of life even more, and how it differs so much to ours. The narrator explains that when the bushman see planes in the sky, they just think they're just big noisy birds that fly without flapping their wings.

Then one day one of the bushmen named Xi (pronounced, Key), saw something fall from the sky. For the life of him he couldn't figure it out what it was. (It was an empty coke bottle that a pilot threw out while flying overhead). But to Xi it was the oddest thing he had ever seen. He took it home to share with his family. They were all amazed and they soon found some cool uses for it since it was harder and smoother than anything they ever had. They assumed the Gods had given it to them, but they were confused why they only sent one. Soon everyone wanted to use it, and they experienced new emotions like selfishness and greed. It was when Xi's son got hit over the head with it when Xi got mad at the Gods and demanded they take it back. He threw it up in the air expecting the Gods to take it but it just went crashing back down and hitting another child in the head!

Now calling it "The Evil Thing" Xi decided to walk to "the end of the earth" and throw it off. He said that it would take at least 40 days to find "the end of the earth" so he decided to set off in the morning. This journey Xi decides to take brings him to many crazy and hilarious encounters with civilized men and women. He doesn't know what to make of them and he thinks they are the Gods that send him the "Evil Thing."

One of the civilized men he meets and befriends is Mr. Steyn; a relaxed and normal guy until he's in the company of a woman. But whenever there's a lady present, he turns into thumbs and he's the clumsiest guy in the world. This is where some of the funniest moments in the movie happen when he's in the presence of a school teacher (Kate Thomson) and when he escorts her to her new job. I've had tears run down my face from laughing so hard.

It is in the presence of Mr. Steyn when Xi runs into more funny adventures, and some danger.

I have added some videos of the movie below just in case you want to see the original trailer or some of the funny parts:
