"Hello, I'm Mister Ed!"

Who remembers this show? I do, and always got excited when I heard the beginning song which goes like this: "A horse is a horse of course of course. And no one can talk to a horse of course unless of course it is the famous Mister Ed. He's always on a steady course. Talk to Mister Ed. You've never heard of a talking horse? Well listen to this!"

"I am Mister Ed!"

I know that this was made in the 60's, but thanks to TV Land I got to experience this show through re-runs. I loved it right off the bat, and it quickly became my favorite show. I looked forward to watching everyday, sang to the song, and knew the horse's "voice" by heart.

For those who haven't heard of it, this was a great show for horse lovers, kids, and kids at heart. It was about a talking horse named Ed, who only talked to his owner Wilbur. Ed was so funny and so was goofy Wilbur. I loved Ed, and the crazy adventures he had with Wilbur. I always thought he was such a gorgeous horse and wanted one just like him. I had a horse of my own which was another reason why I loved the show so much. I even thought it would be cool if MY horse could talk! The only thing I didn't like about the show was Wilbur's wife, because she was always nagging him and complaining about Ed. Typical wife right?

A lot of people often wondered how they made the horse move its lips. Well I found out that in the beginning of the show they moved Ed's lips with a nylon string. But the horse was so smart, he eventually caught on and moved his lips on his own. He actually paid attention to Wilbur and moved his lips only when he stopped talking. Pretty cool horse!

I have a fond memory of one night when TV Land aired "Mister Ed" all night long. It was the year 1990, I was 13 years old and it was when my parents let me stay home alone for a weekend. I looked forward to those weekends because I felt trusted and grown up. And I was trusted, they knew I wouldn't get myself into trouble and I didn't. The only thing I did that I wouldn't do when they were home was eat a whole bunch of junk food and watch TV all night long. And that's exactly what I did that night. I had my snacks with me and my drinks and I was ready for the "Mister Ed" marathon!
